冬は恋の季節、、ではありませんが寒いと人恋しくなったりもします。ということで恋愛トークです！英語で恋バナするときに覚えて欲しい単語「Crush」を今回は解説します。

Winter is the season for love…not really, but we feel lonely for some contact. So we are going to talk about love today! When you talk about love in English, keep in mind what “crush” means!

Kristina: Yes Junko.

Junko: When was your first crush?

Kristina: My first crush was…when I was ah…maybe around 1 or 2 years old. I was living in Chicago at the time with my mom. And uh, my mom was renting out a room in this, in this home and ah…there was a boy in that family that played the piano…guess I claimed him to be my boyfriend.

Junko: Dominance!

Kristina: At an early age. So, Jun! How about your first crush?

Junko: My first crush was my first boyfriend…so…that was really late.

Kristina: What do you act like when you have crush?

Junko: Shy…and then I send them googley eyes.

Kristina: Okay! Show the camera what your googley eyes look like…Oh my god!

Junko: How are you like when you’re crushing on someone?

Kristina: You already know.

Junko: I know. She’s really stupid and I make fun of her. Looser!! Cause she’s like this puppy. She’s just like…Hmmmmm! Every single thing that person who does will make…

Kristina: Me happy!

Junko: Giddy!

Kristina: I get excited. I get so excited to be in the presence, to talk to them, for any little recognition they give me.

Junko: And it’s so obvious!

What’s a crush?

Kristina: Hmm…

Junko: Explain to our viewers what crush is…

Kristina: A crush is what you feel initially…when you’re attracted to someone. You don’t really know them that well…um…but there is something about them that draws you to them…yea…it’s an infatuation! …yea.

Junko: Why is it called a crush?

Kristina: Because a lot of times…crushes don’t end very well and so your feelings…!!

Junko: Get crushed!

Kristina: Exactly! Um…

Junko: Your heart get crushed and crumbles into dust and then it goes…bye…

So, what type of a person would you normally crush on or what you find more attractive?

Kristina: There is no such things as a “type of person” for me, but there are…

Junko: Qualities.

Kristina: …certain qualities that I find attractive. One of them is passion and drive. All the people that I have either crushed on or dated, have had some sort of passion or drive whether its art, or a physical sport, or just traveling.

Kristina: What about you, Jun?

Junko: A quality that I do find…uh…common amongst a lot of the people that I have either crushed on or dated, are…passion and…I guess…the motivation to learn more and to educate themselves in, at least, a certain field…and…I don’t know, I think knowledge is very sexy.

Kristina: How do you deal when you’ve been crushed?

Junko: I will listen to sad music…and I will cry. I would write about it. I will take all bad qualities of that person and create an evil character and write about them…and then after I write about it, I will feel like…I’m better off without that person. And that…they’re missing out!

What about you?

Kristina: Old Kristina…uh would listen to sad, sad, music and…put my finger in the wound of my heart and dig deeper until I just wouldn’t feel anything about it anymore.

Um…but now! Now it’s more um…more even. Like I…I acknowledge the fact that it was one sided. And um…I don’t know, just move on from there. Like logic just seems to out way things. I accept the feeling and just start to working out a lot…

Junko: It’s not meant to be…

Kristina: Don’t force it

Junko: Yea

Kristina: Yea, besides then it leaves you open for someone who is meant to be, with your time.

Junko: Or make you write happy stories!

Kristina: Yea!

Junko: 私の初恋は一番最初に付き合った男の子だから、わりと遅い方かな。

Kristina: あなたが片思いしてる時ってどうやって現す？

Junko: 照れながらも…きょろきょろって目線を相手に送るかな。

Junko: あなたは誰かを好きになったらどんな風になるの？

Kristina: もうとっくにわかってるくせに！

Kristina: 幸せを感じる！

Junko: うきうきする！

Kristina: 嬉しい。すごく嬉しい、一緒に居られることとか、話せる事とか、どんな些細な事でも自分を意識してくれている事が。

Junko: 目に見てわかる！Crushって何?　

Kristina: Hmm…

Junko: Crushとは何か私達の視聴者に説明して。

Kristina: Crushって言うのは…最初に誰かをいいなって感じる気持ち。全然、よく知りもしないけど何か自分の中で気になって…惹かれて…うん、夢中になる！…うん。

Junko: 何で crushって言うんだろうね〜？

Kristina: それは、多くの場合は…恋って良いようには終わらないから、自分の気持ちが…！

Junko: 気持ちが押しつぶされちゃうみたいな！

Kristina: その通り！で…

Junko: 心がぐしゃっと潰れちゃうの、粉々に砕け散って行くの…バーイ…

で、普段、自分が片思いする人ってどういうタイプの人か、どこが魅力的？

Kristina: 私の場合は“こういうタイプの人”っていうのは無いけど、でもあるとしたら…

Junko: 本質。

Kristina: 私が魅力的だなって感じる本質の類は…。そのうちの一つが、情熱だったり、衝動。私がこれまで失恋しちゃった相手も付き合った相手も、その殆どの人が情熱のようなものを持っていたし衝動だったし、それが芸術だったり、体を動かすスポーツだったり、旅だったり。

Kristina: Junの場合はどう?

Junko: 私が求めてる本質は…私が失恋したり付き合ったりした事ある人の中で共通している本質が…情熱と…多分ね…もっと知りたい、少なくともその人に、その分野をより身につけたいっていうモチベーションがある…とか、よく解らないけど。知識があるってとてもセクシーだと思う。

Kristina: あなたは失恋したらどう乗り切る？

Junko: 切ない音楽を聴いて、泣く。それについて書く。その人の嫌な部分をまとめて、最悪なキャラクターに仕立てて書く。それを書ききったら、その人が居なくても私は得していて、相手は逆に損してる。あなたはどう？

Kristina: 昔の自分ならきっと、切ない、切ない音楽聴いたり、自分の傷ついた心に集中して、もうこれ以上何も感じないところまで自分の気持ちを掘り下げる。

でも今は！今はもっと、もっと冷静にただの片思いだったっていうその事実を受け止める。うん…解らないけど、そこからまた動き出す。論理的に物事を見る。そして自分の気持ちを受け入れて、たくさん筋トレし始める。

Kristina: 無理強いしない。

Junko: だね。

Kristina: そう、それに自分にふさわしい相手のための機会を作って、あけておく。

Kristina: そう！

First crush

ここでの意味は「初恋」です。
crushには、自分の持つ特別な気持ちや恋心の意味もあります。
例: “I’m crushing on you!” 君に夢中だよ！

Dominance

直訳だと、「優越」になってしまいますが、イメージとしては群れにいるボス猿に近いです。ここではKristinaが自分で勝手に「私は相手よりも立場が上」として気になる男の子を有無をいわさず一方的に彼氏！！と決めてしまったので、それに対してJunがKristinaの行動に対して「Dominance!」と言っています。

Get crushed

「失恋する」
先程は「初恋」の意味のcrushでしたが、
crushの元々の意味は「押し潰す」で、crushedで「押し潰された」の意味になります。
get「状態になる」と合わさって
get crushed「失恋する」という意味になります。

It’s not meant to be…

「そういう運命には無かったんだ」
様々な意味があるmeanという単語ですが、it’s meant to beという形だと「運命にある」という意味になります。
今回は、it’s not meant to be なので「運命になかった」という訳になります。
例: we’re meant to be…!!「私達は結ばれる運命なんだね!!」
