MariとJunkoの友情トーク後編は、親友の定義から男女間の友情に話が発展しました。これも国を問わず話題になるトピックのようです。どんな話が飛び出すでしょうか？！

Junko: Also I have a question…do you think that opposite, like…boys and girls can be best friends?

Mari: I…yea. I totally believe. Yea, cause I have 2 best friends and they’re guys. Yea, I know them…I’ve known them for 4 years. One is 4 years and the other one is…3 years. And I consider them as best friends. Yea. Why, you can’t?

Junko: Oh no no, I can. I mean…some of…most of my best friends are guys.

Mari: Oh wow. Yea, I understand it. Yea, guys are, yea

Junko: And…I’ve always been told that’s weird.

Mari: Oh yea! My friend told me that too! Like, I was talking to my friend about the best relationship, oh no no no, the best friends relationship and like…like…I told him like I have 2 girl best friend and 2 boy best friends. And they were like why? Why can you consider guys as best friends you know?

Junko: I mean, I don’t understand.

Mari: Either

Junko: A lot of people are like…you can’t be just friends. Someone has feelings.

Mari: Yea

Junko: But it’s like…why can’t it be a platonic relationship?

Mari: Yea, that’s right, yea. And like, for me those guys are kind of like players? So I don’t wanna be in a relationship with them but I wanna be like friends with them. You know what I mean? So…Oh and I was thinkin also like, if you have a boyfriend and you gonna show the boyfriends picture to your best friend right? Sometime. And how does she…how do you think she will react?

Junko: Usually, they…it depends on the person, it’s always positive. It’s always positive. It’s like, “oh he’s cute” or “oh! I want to smack his face”

Mari: Oh yea

Junko: Stuff like that or it’s like “he looks cool”

Mari: So what about other friends? Like, not best friends?

Junko: I’ve never gotten a bad reaction. Like oh yea this is my boyfriend

Mari: Oh wow

Junko: Um…although on the other hand, while I was dating them, I’ve had issues come up, mainly because I have guy best friends.

Mari: Yea yea

Junko: And I’m really close with them and so then usually the boyfriend gets jealous

Mari: Oh yea

Junko: That’s an issue

Mari: But you cannot do it

Junko: But I…I have this habit of putting my friends first, so my boyfriend gets jealous and I’m like, yea they’re my friends and then they get more jealous and then…

Mari: Yea! But that’s so me!

Junko: And then I break up with them

Mari: Yea yea that’s right yea yea yea…of course,

Junko: Story of my life

Mari: friends are really important…yea. No, what I wanted to say, for me, I think this is only to me or around me or maybe it’s Japanese standard but um…friends, if I show um, my boyfriends picture they would say like “oh he looks cool” “he looks nice, but he’s not my type”

Junko: Oh really?

Mari: Yea, because if you don’t say that, girl will…you know

Junko: Get insecure

Mari: Yea, maybe yea. So like, best friends are gonna say like um… “yea, he looks cool and yea you guys look cute together” or something positive. Only positive. And “he’s my type” yea whatever, yea she can say that but like…friends, just friends, would be like, “yea, he’s not my type but you guys look good together” you know

Junko: Really?

Mari: Yea…to like show that she is not interested.

Junko: Interesting.

Mari: I think that this is really like, unique, right?

Junko: That is…

Mari: Yea…

Junko: I…I mean, I’ve shown picture…and yea I get feed back saying “yea you guys look cute together” or “you guys make a good match” but they would never say “he’s not my type” or anything, cause I think…in that sense it would be kind of insulting. “oh, but I would never date him” oh, he’s not good enough for you?

Mari: That’s interesting. Because, like, for me, friends, girlfriends says like “he’s not my type” or like…whatever like bad or negative things…but I would be like “oh don’t worry because he’s mine and whatever you say you know…

Junko: It won’t bother me

Mari: Yea, it doesn’t so… Yea, is it like Japanese and american differences or like…is it just me or around me?

Junko: I don’t know, but if my girlfriend showed me a picture of her and her boyfriend, I wouldn’t say “oh he’s not my type” I would say “oh you guys look cute together”

Mari: Of course I would say some compliment or something positive

Junko: But I would never say anything

Mari: feedbacks but…

Junko: I don’t think I would ever say anything negative. Alright…um…so we can continue this topic next time or in another video and get other opinions possibly, that would be interesting. And, yea, thanks Mari for coming

Mari: 私…うん、そう思うよ。うん、だって２人親友いて、男子だもん。うん、知ってる…もう４年間知ってる。１人は４年で、もう１人は…３年。それで親友だと思ってるよ。うん。なんで、なれないと思う？

Junko: ううん、ううん、なれる。ただ…何人か…ほとんどの親友男子なんだよね。

Mari: あ、すごい。うん、分かるよ。うん、男子は、うん

Junko: それで…ずっとそれが変だって言われてきたの

Mari: そうだよね！私の友達もそう言ってた！なんか、友達と最高な恋愛について話してて…あ、違う違う違う、親友の関係ね、それで…彼に２人女子の親友と２人男子の親友いるって言ったの。そしたら「何で？」って聞かれて。どうやって男子を親友だと思えるの？

Junko: なんか、わからない

Mari: 私も

Junko: 多くの人がさ…ただの友達になれないって。誰かは気持ちある。

Mari: うん

Junko: でもさ…なんでプラトニックの関係じゃダメなの？

Mari: うん、そうだよね、うん。それに、私にとってその男子たちはチャラいのね？だから恋愛関係にはなりたくなくて、ただの友達がいいの。わかる？だから…あ、それで考えてたんだけどさ、例えば彼氏ができるじゃん、その彼氏の写真を親友に見せるでしょ？たまに。それで彼女は…彼女はどうリアクションすると思う？

Junko: いつも…人によるんだけど、いつもポジティブだよ。いつもポジティブ。なんか「あ、彼可愛いじゃん」とか「あぁ！顔ひっぱたきたい！」

Mari: そうなんだ

Junko: そんな感じか「彼かっこいいね」

Mari: じゃ、他の友達は？親友じゃない人？

Junko: 悪いリアクションは一回もないよね。いつも「私の彼氏」

Mari: そう？

Junko: うーん…でも逆に、付き合ってるときに、問題になるのがね、男子の親友がいるから

Mari: うん　うん

Junko: それで結構みんなと仲が良いから、彼氏が焼きもちやくの

Mari: うん

Junko: それが問題

Mari: でもできないじゃん

Junko: でも私…私、癖があってね、友達を優先しちゃうの、だから彼氏が焼きもち焼いても私は、でも友達だからって言ってより焼きもち焼くのね…

Mari: うん！それ私も！

Junko: それで別れちゃうの

Mari: うんうん、そうね、うんうんうん…もちろん

Junko: 私の人生の話

Mari: 友達は大事だよね…うん。うーん、でも私が言いたかったのは、私はね、私だけなのか、私の周りだけなのか、これが日本では普通なのか、でも…友達、もし私が見せたらね、えっと、彼氏の写真、みんな「あ、かっこいいね」とか「優しそうだけど、私のタイプじゃない」って言う

Junko: 本当？

Mari: うん、だってそう言わないと女子は

Junko: 不安になっちゃう

Mari: うん、たぶんね。だから、親友たちはこうやって言うのね「うん、かっこいいし、２人とも可愛いよ」とか、ポジティブなことね。ポジティブだけ。それで「彼、私のタイプ」とかは、うん、言っていいの…でも友達、ただの友達だったらね「うん、彼は私のタイプじゃないけど、２人ともお似合いだよ」とか

Junko: 本当？

Mari: うん…興味ないって見せる為にね

Junko: なるほど

Mari: これってさ、かなり、ユニークだよね？

Junko: これって…

Mari: うん…

Junko: 私…私はね、写真見せた事あるよ…それで、うん、私はねいつも「２人とも可愛いよ」とか「お似合いだね」って言われるけど、絶対「タイプじゃない」とか言われない、だってたぶん…それってある意味侮辱的だから。「うーん、でも私は付き合わないね」とか言われたら「なに、彼はあなたのレベルじゃないから付き合えないの？」

Mari: なるほど。だって、なんか、私はね、友達、女子友達とかが「彼はタイプじゃない」とか…そのようなネガティブなこととか…私はね、大丈夫、だって私の彼だし、あなたが何言ったって…

Junko: 気にしない

Mari: うん、気にしないから…うん、これは日本とアメリカの違いなのか…私の周りだけなのかな？

Junko: わからない、けどもし私の女子友達が彼氏の写真見せてくれたら、私は「彼、タイプじゃない」とか言わない、「２人ともお似合いだね」

Mari: もちろん、そうゆう褒め言葉やポジティブな

Junko: でも、私は絶対言わない

Mari: ことは言うけど…

Junko: ネガティブなことは言わない。はい、うーん…これについてはまた次回か、違う動画で、他の意見もあったら面白いかもね。後、Mari、今日来てくれてありがとう、それと…

■■ 今日のフレーズ！■■

in a relationship with

ここの「relationship」は「交際」「付き合う」の意味です。なので「I’m in a relationship with him」など言うと「私は彼と付き合ってるの」を伝えてます。通常では「relationship」には恋愛との繋がりが強いですが（例：「are you in a relationship?」「今付き合ってる人いる」）、「relationship」はあくまでも「関係」って意味です。

I’ve had issues come up

直訳では「問題が起きた」です。「issues」は雑誌の○○号とか、テレビの特番とかでも使われていますが、人間関係での「issues」は「問題」や「トラブル」の意味です。

Story of my life

直訳ですと「私の人生の話」です。これは自分の中で良くある出来事などを説明した後、または誰かの話にかなり共感できるときに付け足すフレーズです。毎回イアフォンをなくしてしまうことを誰かに話終わった後に「story of my life」を付け足すと呆れるくらい普段からある出来事なんだよね、って感じを伝えます。もし、相手が話してて「I always spill my coffee」「いつもコーヒーこぼしちゃうの」を言って、自分もそうなら「Story of my life!」を言うと「私も」と強く共感している感じになります。
