Tech 系のニュースメディアでも話題になっていた「Be My Eyes」という視覚障害者を助けるアプリについて話します。英語とアプリの勉強になるお得な動画！いえ、素晴らしいコンセプトなので損得抜きにしてみてください！

We will be talking about an app that aids the visually impaired, “Be My Eyes”, which was also talked about quite a bit in the tech media. A good video for learning English and about new apps! This is a beautiful concept, and something everyone can benefit from!

Kristina: And today we’re going to talk about an app.

Junko: Yes, the app is called “Be My Eyes”

Kristina: Anytime.

So Junko, what is this app for?

Junko: This app is for the visually impaired…to get assistance by those who are not visually impaired.

Kristina: SO, how do you blinded people use smartphones?

Junko: That is a question that I had been thinking about for a while also, but luckily for the internet, uh…all my answers became very clear. There is this function, in at least that iPhone 3GS and up called voice toggle…? Voice over.

Kristina: Hmmmm

Junko: And if you turn that on it…it’s speak to you. With that, people are able to figure out what app they’re using, what’s on their screen…and access the app.

Kristina: Gotcha! So when they tap on the screen the voice will tell them what the app is, and to open it, just double click anywhere on the screen!

Junko: So, this app called “Be My Eyes” is where you sign up as…I am sighted and…you’ll get a notification by someone who is blind, who needs assistance.

Kristina: It’s so interesting because…we take for a granted our vision.

Junko: The whole concept of the app of helping people?

Kristina: Hmm!

Junko: Without…

Kristina: Asking for something in return…

Junko: Yeah. And it’s not like they have to pay for it…either it’s…it’s just out of…

Kristina: The kindness of their heart

Junko: Thank you. Generosity, yeah

Kristina: Yeah! No! It totally goes back to the whole concept for paying it forward. Trying to promote positivity in the world by giving to someone else.

Junko: huh

Kristina: I really like that. So, I mean it’s really new…a lot of apps when they first come out have bugs…

Junko: Yeah…and I was reading thorough the reviews and there are some bugs right now. There are a lot more people who are sighted then who are visually impaired and perhaps that is the reason why a lot of people who are sighted, don’t get notifications. They’re like I’ve been signed up for two weeks, I haven’t been able to help anyone…but then I did read a few comments where there are people who are visually impaired, and they’re like I’ve waited for fifteen minutes and…

Kristina: There is no…

Junko: No help…

So, I’m not sure of that’s with maybe language because you sign up with whatever language able to speak. So maybe this person speaks Spanish but then there was nobody available that spoke Spanish at the time.

Kristina: Hm…

Junko: But I do hope that they fix those bugs?

Kristina: Yeah!

Junko: Cause I think the concept is…it’s a beautiful concept.

Kristina: You know, I think this app do a lot of good and I think…it’s opening the door for more apps in the future. I feel like with this app…all of us who ah…chose sign up as ah…helper, as someone who’s sighted, will become more aware of simple tasks we take for a granted in our daily lives.

Junko: From choosing clothes…

Kristina: To checking the expiration date on food.

Junko: Yeah. I mean those I think we don’t really think about, but we just kind of do…

Kristina: Hmm…we go on autopilot without realizing how blessed we are.

Junko: The app is called “Be My Eyes” um, it is free in the app store and I think it is available…everywhere…

Kristina: いつでも。ねぇJunko ,このアプリは何のためにあるの？

Junko: このアプリは視覚障害の人が…目の障害が無い人にアシスタントをしてもらうためのアプリなんだよ。

Kristina: So,目の不自由な人たちはどうやってスマートフォンを使うのかな？

Junko: 私もそれはしばらく考えてた問題で、でもラッキーな事にインターネットでね、私の全ての答えがかなり解決したよ/はっきりしたよ。この機能があってね、最低でも iPhone 3GSにある、音声切り替え…？音声ナレーションだ！

Kristina: ふーん…

Junko: で、それを起動すると…話しかけてくるの。それでもってみんなが自分の使ってるアプリが何かを認識できるの、画面に何が映しだされているかとか…それでこのアプリにアクセスするの。

Kristina: わかった！スクリーンをタップすると音声がこのアプリが何かを伝えてくれるから、それを開いて、画面のどこでもいいからダブルクリックする！

Junko: So, この“Be My Eyes”っていうアプリは自分がサインアップしている場所に居て…

私が「見えてるよ」ってすると…目の見えない人、アシスタントを必要としている人からのお知らせが来るの。

Kristina: すごく面白い、だって…私達は、見える事が当たり前だからね。

Junko: 人を手伝う事がこのアプリの全体的なコンセプトだよね？

Kristina: Hmm!

Junko: 必要としなくていいの…

Kristina: 代わりに誰かに聞くっていう事をね…

Junko: Yeah. そう。あとこれに対してお金払わなくてもいいみたいだし、それに、純粋に…

Kristina: 心から出る親切な気持ちから。

Junko: ありがとう。まごころ、yeah。

Kristina: Yeah! いや、これって完全に、先に支払うっていう全体のコンセプトの逆を行ってるよね。他の誰かに与えるっていう事でもってこの世界の中で積極性を働きかけようとしてる。

Junko: huh

Kristina: これすごくいいね。So, かなり新しいけど…新しいアプリの多くは、初期不良も出てくるよね…

Junko: Yeah…私ね全体的にこの評価を見てみたんだけど、今バグがいくつかあるんだよね。サイトにログインしている人で、その時は視覚に障害を持っている人は結構居て、多分だけどサインインしている人は多いけど、知らせが来ないから。

こういう感じ…私２週間サインインして、誰も手伝えなかったんだよね…でも、視覚障害の人がコメントしてある部分もいくつか読んだんだ、その人達１５分間くらい待ってたっぽかったんだけどね、でも…

Kristina: …何も…

Junko: 何も助けがないの。そう、確信は持てないけど、多分、言語が原因かなって、話せる言葉だったら何でもサインインできちゃうから。So、もしかしたらこの人がスペイン語を話すかもしれなくても、その時に対応可能なスペイン語を話せる人が誰も居ないのかもしれないし。

Kristina: Hm…あぁ…

Junko: でも私はこういうバグを改善してくれる事を本当に願うよ。

Kristina: Yeah!

Junko: このコンセプトが…これって美しいコンセプトだと思うから。

Kristina: まあ、このアプリは沢山良いことすると思うし…まだ多くの未来のアプリの扉が開いたばかりだもんね。私が思うのは、このアプリで私達の多くが、ah…助ける人としてサインインを選んで…サイトログインしている立場になれば、それで私達が普段の自分たちの生活の中で当たり前のように思ってるシンプルな能力にもっと気づくようになるよ。

Junko: 洋服の色を選ぶことから…

Kristina: 食べ物の消費期限を調べることまで。

Junko: Yeah. 自分たちが本当に考えない事について考えるっていうか、そういう事をしてみるみたいな…

Kristina: Hmm…どのくらい自分たちが恵まれているかを自覚しないで自動的にやっているから。

Junko: このアプリは“Be My Eyes”っていいます、um、アプリストアで無料だよ、あと、どこでも利用できる…と…思う…

Kristina: やってみよう、やるとしたら、思うこと教えてね。
