Junko: Welcome! To Junko teaches Kristina part 3.
Kristina: 4
Junko: 4
Junko: This week, I’m gonna teach Kristina about…this band.
Kristina: No Image.
Junko: No that’s the album name.
Kristina: Oh! I thought that was an error.
Junko: HOMMヨ
Kristina: HOMMヨ
Junko: HOMMヨ, which means what…male in French?
Kristina: Men?
Junko: Men? In French. Um..and I think the reason why they chose this is because all of them, from afar, a kind of from look like boys.
Kristina: Really?
Junko: There’s this bass player that I absolutely love.
Kristina: Passionately…with all your heart.
Junko: Passionately…like…I want to be her.
Kristina: Be careful! Be careful!
Junko: I want to be in her skin! She’s just like super cool…an amazing female bass player. She was playing at this count down concert when I first moved to Tokyo. And while we were there, this band was playing…and I really liked them. They were dark. I mean they are dark. And there’s like this..
Kristina: ..like me?
Junko: Like you. It’s like this warm dark. I dunno, like her voice? She has a deeper voice. It’s just very … I think she’d be a good vampire.
Junko: We have come up with a rating system for the bands that I introduce to Kristina. She’s going to give them..
Kristina: Skirts!
Junko: Skirts! 5 being “Wow, this is amazing. And 1 being…heh better luck next time!”
Kristina: If you don’t get any skirts, that’s kind of sad. Alright. Let’s play music.
Kristina: (Over music)..She has a sexy voice.
June: (Over music) Right??
June: But yes…out of the few songs that you’ve heard…
Kristina: Yeah.
June: They’re very very different from the other two where they’re very upbeat. Uh..other 3. Where they’re upbeat 4 piece bands, more mainstream. This is very indie…Japanese.
Kristina: I like their style. Um…it’s very different. I can see ..the first song that you played me…what’s the name of it?
June: 死体遊戯
Kristina: Like the sound of it makes me think of a Tarantino film kind of. It’s just really like..kind of..unsettling.
Kristina: This is a more mainstreamed..mainstream band in America..and I know you know them. But she..like they (HOMMヨ) kind of remind me of an indie version of them. The song is called “Maps” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Kristina: (Over music) I love this song. It’s my favorite.
Kristina: If you watch the performances..and we’ll link both bands’ performances, and they’re different…but there are similarities. And one of the things that I really like is that it…it seems like it almost hurts them to be on stage. Obviously, they love what they’re doing..but there’s this..this kind of pain that’s either in their voice or..like in their physical body..and it just.. like it makes you feel.
Junko: I think that’s what really…that defines a great musician. Is that if they can make the audience feel something.
Kristina: So uh…rating time!
Junko: How many skirts?
Kristina: Let’s see…I would have to give them… 4 and a 1/2 skirts!
Junko: Maybe 5 if you go to a concert.
Kristina: Maybe….
Kristina:….what?…Let’s just… This is the name of the band. Check them out. We’ll put a link on the bottom of our video and uh…yeah maybe we’ll see you at a concert!

ここでのout of の用法ですが、(材料など)〜 から、という意味です。あなたが聞いた数曲から、という訳になります。ちなみに、ここで言葉は切れていますが、本来 “あなたが聞いた数曲から (私の感想を言うと)" と続くはずで、その後の They’re very very different from… とJunko の感想に繋がっています。

K： あら！エラーかと思った。

K： HOMMヨ
J： HOMMヨは、フランス語で男性って意味かな？
K： 男性？
J： フランス語で男性。たぶん、この名前を選んだのはみんななんとなく男の子に見えるからだと思う。
K： 本当？
J： ベースプレイヤーがすごく好きなの
K： 情熱的に・・・心から
J： 情熱的に・・・彼女になりたいくらい
K： 気を付けて！
J： 彼女になってみたい！すごく素晴らしい女性ベーシストなの。わたしが東京に引っ越してきて最初にいったカウントダウンライブで演奏したの。このバンドがでてて、すごく好きになった。暗い感じで。こんな感じに。
K： わたし・・？
J： そう、あなたみたいに(笑。暖かいんだけど、暗い。よくわからないけど、彼女の声かな？ディープな声なの。なんか・・・ヴァンパイアになれそうな感じ。
J： 紹介したバンドの評価システムをつくったの。Kristina はどう採点するかというと、、
K： スカート！
J： スカート！５が「わお、素晴らしい！」で、１が・・・「次回がんばって」
K： 何もゲットできなかったら、残念な感じね。じゃあ、音楽を聞きましょ

J： 数曲きいてみてどう？
K： そうね
J： 他のバンドとすごく違うところは、他の２つはアップビートだったところ。あ、他の３つね。けっこうメインストリームの４ピースバンドだったんだけど、今回のは日本のインディーって感じ。
K： スタイルは好きだよ、すごく個性的で。最初の曲は・・・なんていう曲だったけ？
J： 死体遊戯
K： サウンドが、タランティーノ映画を思わせる感じね。すごく、落ち着かない感じ。
K： これはもっとメインストリームな感じのアメリカのメインストリームのバンド。知ってると思うんだけど。HOMMヨは、このバンドのインディー版て感じね。この曲は、Yeah Yeah Yeahsの“Maps”
K： この曲すごい好き、お気に入りなの。
K： パフォーマンスを見ると、どっちのバンドのリンクも貼るけど、違うんだけど似てるところもある。すごく好きなところは、ステージに立つことが痛みにすら感じさせるところ。彼らは自分たちのやっていることを好きでやっているんだけど、でも声なのか身体なのか、痛みを感じさせて、それが何かを感じさせるの。
J： それが素晴らしいミュージシャンの定義なのかもね。観客に何かを感じさせられるかどうか。
K： そうね・・・じゃぁ、評価タイム！
