今回のJKニュースは、先日発表された「ツイン・ピークス」の新シリーズ制作についてです。実は「ツイン・ピークス」を見たことのない2人はこの機会に前シリーズをチェックしました。どんな感想を持ったでしょうか？

Kristina: Hey Jun!
Junko: Hey!
Did you hear about that?
Kristina: We’re talking about David Lynch aren’t we?
Junko: Yes.
Kristina: Oh! Yes I did. One of the trends that has been happening in Hollywood are remakes, resets, and continuations of old stories.
David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” will be starting up a new series..
Junko:…In 2016.
Kristina: In 2016…exactly 25 years since the last episode aired…which is a significant number because…
Junko: It’s mentioned in the very last episode..I’ll see you in 25 years.
Kristina: One of the things that surprised us was the fact that David Lynch is pretty well known in Japan!
Junko: Well in university I studied film, and David Lynch is one of the main directors…creators…that we study ..in film.
Kristina: So why is that Japanese people know about “Twin Peaks”? Jun, explain this to me.
Junko: “Twin Peaks” came out…early 90s …1990…and then it ended in ‘91… But kind of a similar style..in ‘89 “Tetsuo: The Iron Man” came out…and that was a pretty big hit. Watching that movie…and watching David Lynch…I…ARGGhhh… It’s really creepy! You know they take the weird sounds, the weird movements, the weird angles, and the weird lighting…and they put it all together… It’s just …what was popular at the time in Japan.
Kristina: So if you study popular media, it reflects a lot of what’s going on in that culture at that time. And so…like in America…during the 90s…the population was going through the grunge period..um away from 80s pop. Perhaps the uh advent of Twin Peaks coming back is a sign that…maybe we’re looking for something a little more deep.
Junko: I think it’s so unnerving in so many ways because it’s…honest…about Humanity. And I didn’t like that. It’s so awkward! And so creepy! And it just…it makes me feel uncomfortable! And I don’t like that!…at all.
Kristina: There are those films…as Jun has mentioned that are thought-provoking…and it gives you this uncomfortable feeling…because it’s making you look at things you don’t want to look at. And I think that’s one of the reasons why David Lynch was so popular. He took the setting of a simple town in Washington. They have their diner, they have their sheriff…an image of traditional America…simple blue-collar workers. And then..underneath all of that… You have the darker side of things…where it’s not as innocent as it seems. Have any of you seen this series? What do you think?

K： 聞いたよ！今、リメイク、リセット、古いストーリーの続きがハリウッドのトレンドだよね。David Lynchの「ツイン・ピークス」も新しいシリーズをやるみたいね。

K： 2016年・・・最後のシリーズ放送からちょうど25年だね。すごく意義深いね・・・
J： 最後のエピソードで、(ローラ・パーマーが)25年後に会いましょう、って言っているからね
K： 驚いたのが、David Lynchが日本でもけっこう有名だっていうこと！
J： 私が大学で勉強してた映画の授業で、David Lynchは授業に出てきたディレクター？クリエイターのひとりだったの。
K： なんで日本人は「ツイン・ピークス」を知ってるの？ジュン、教えて。
J： 「ツイン・ピークス」は1990年に放送開始されて91年に終わったんだけど、89年にヒットした「鉄男」にスタイルが似てたの。「鉄男」を見て、David Lynchを見ると・・・すごく不気味なの！変な効果音、変な動き、変なアングルのカット、変な照明・・・すべてを一緒にすると・・・そういうのが日本で流行っていた時期だったの。
K： そのときに流行っていたメディアを調べると、その時代を反映しているみたいね。例えば、90年代のアメリカは、80年代のポップから遠ざかって、グランジが流行っていたり。そしたら、今「ツイン・ピーク」が復活するってことは、なにかもっとディープなものをアメリカが求めてるっていう兆候なのかも。
J： すごくゾっとするよね・・人間性を正直に描いていて。あんまり好きじゃないんだよね、すごく心地悪いし気味が悪い！なんか・・すごく不愉快な感じ！すっごく嫌い！
K： ジュンが言うとおり、いろいろ考えさせられるような映画だよね、不愉快な感じを与えるような。本当は見たくないものを見させられるからね。そこが、David Lynchの人気の理由でもあると思う。舞台は、ワシントンの一般的な街。ダイナーがあって保安官がいて、っていう昔ながらのアメリカ。ブルーカラーの労働者。でも水面下には・・・ダークサイドがあって、表面の無垢に見えるものとは全く違うもの。
