空き部屋をシェアするというコンセプトで、今や190ヶ国にも広がっている Airbnb というサービスをご存知ですか？ 今回 JK (Junko & Kris) は日本のトップ Airbnb ゲストハウスである、品川の Miraie (ミライエ) に行ってきました。ゲストハウスに興味のある人は是非遊びにも行ってください！
The concept of opening up the extra room in your house has spread across 190 different countries through a service called Airbnb. This time JK went to go visit Miraie, the top guest house in Japan. If you are interested in guest houses, please stop by!

Junko: So, do you have any plans for the winter holidays?
Kristina: Yea I was thinking about doing a little bit of traveling. Um, are you familiar with airbnb?
Junko: Yea
Kristina: I’m even smaller than usual.
Junko: おじゃましまーす

Li: Welcome to Miraie, come on in!

Li: This is uh, my dog Joey
Kristina: So yea, can you give us the tour?
Li: Yea, sure! This is the public space. As you can see, the living room and kitchen. And we decide here for everyone to use here, and like the guest from other countries staying here, like they can communicate with Japanese residents who also with us here and they can cook here too and they can read the book we have here, they can use the music instruments here as well
Kristina: That sounds fun.

Li: Yes
Kristina: What inspired you guys to make an airbnb?
Li: Uh, I guess before we have airbnb, we have guest from, is Japanese, they Japanese. They are all my husbands friend, they are all working in different countries but they need accommodation in Tokyo, so we offer accommodation to them. And then we started to realize well, we can start with airbnb with not only Japanese, like other people around the world to come to here, to enjoy Japan and also our living style. So that’s how we started first.
Kristina: Cool.
Junko: What country has the most guests? Like, for here?
Li: Well…actually, its really around the world…it’s very hard to say where they come mostly, like…we have African, we have British, French, Chile, it’s really around the world. It’s very hard to say who come here the mostly. And we do the cooking together. I teach them some Japanese food. We also work on some recipes together sometimes.
And here is the guest room to stay. This is only the bed and the room, but it’s not for rent, it’s for traveling. And also they can use the washing machine to wash their laundry during the staying.
Kristina: Do you have any interesting memories with these guests that you could share?
Li: There is a girl, she’s from Malaysia. She is an artist. She is very good in drawing, and painting. And she came here, actually she want to develop her career in Japan. So I decide to help her. So I take her to the Togoshi shop street just 5minutes walking from our place. And theres a very unique shop there and they decide to sell it…sell her work there. So you can see the photo, the paint there, and also back there…also there’s a dog. And there’s another one she gave to us. That’s all her work.
We do a lot of things together in Miraie. Uh, it’s one of the concept like, do things together, work things together. So, our share mate, the guests from other countries, we paint the window there. When you go to outside you will see it. And every season we change the window.
It’s very interesting, when I talk with every guest, I can found something different back to their country. Something…and compare with our culture here. It’s very interesting. Like, how they do their work and their living style back there.
And one thing good for guest I think, because here, we have, we are family, like Japanese family. But we also have single people here, who work in Japan with other children here. So basically in this house they can see many different generation and different people and working style. Even if its small here, but he can experience a lot.
We do a lot of activity here actually. When the weather is good, we eat here. Have breakfast. Um, we also do the private party here.
And one thing here that is special is we have kids here.
Kristina: Yea, it’s different.
Li: It’s different. And it’s very interesting interact with kids. Most people only run share house with a single person but not with a family. And once they get married, they got so closed. But we decided to open here. So everyone can join it.
We were chosen as the, one of the best host in Japan. Next month, we are going to San Francisco, because we were invited by airbnb to meet up other hosts from around the world.
This is my husband here. His name is very unique. Sabeto.

Kristina: それで、ツアーしてくれる？
Li: うん、もちろん！ここがパブリックスペース。見ての通り、リビングとキッチンなの。
それでここは宿泊に来るゲストを含めみんなのスペースにしようって決めたの。他国から来たゲストとかが日本人の住人とコミュニケーションしたり、私たちと料理とかしたり、ここにある本読んだり、あと楽器も自由に使えるの。
Kristina: 楽しそう！

Li: はい
Kristina: airbnbを始めたキッカケとかある？
Li: えーと、airbnbの前は日本人のお客さんが多かったの。みんな旦那の友達だったんだけど、みんな海外で働いてたから東京に来るときに宿が必要で、それで宿をオファーしてたの。そうしたら段々と、airbnbを始めたら日本人だけじゃなくて世界中の人がここに来て、日本と私たちの生活スタイルを楽しめるんじゃないかと思うようになって。それで始めたの。
Kristina: へぇ
Junko: この国からのゲストが１番多いとかある？
Li: えっと…実は、世界中からだから…１番多いとか言うのは難しいけど…アフリカンいたし、ブリティッシュもいたし、フレンチ、チリ、本当世界中から。どこからが多いのかって言うのは難しい。一緒に料理もするの。私が和食を教えて。一緒にレシピ作ったりもするの。
それでここがゲストルーム。ここはベッドと部屋だけ、でも賃貸用じゃなくって、これは旅行者用。それに洗濯機もここにいる間洗濯するために使えるの。
Kristina: ゲストとの面白い思い出とか、もし話せたら、教えてくれる？
Li: マレーシアからの女の子がいたんだけど。彼女はアーティストで。絵を描くのと塗るのがとても上手くて。自分のキャリアを広めるために日本に来たの。手伝うって決めたの。それで戸越銀座に連れてったの。ここから徒歩５分くらいなんだけど。そこでちょっとユニークなお店があって、彼女の絵を売ることになったの。そこにある写真、そこの絵、あとあっちのも…あとあの犬。それともう１つくれたの。全部彼女の作品。
Miraieではいろんなことを一緒にやるの。１つのコンセプトとして、一緒にやったり、働いたり。だからシェアメイト、他国のゲストたちと一緒にそこの窓に絵を描くの。外に行くと見えるよ。毎シーズン窓を変えるの。
ゲストみんなと話すとき、その国との違いを知ることがとても面白いの。なにか…それでここの文化と比べるの。すごく面白い。働きかたや、そこの生活スタイル。
ゲストにとっては良い事は、ここだと、家族だから、日本の家族。でも独身の人もいるし、日本で働いてる人と子供がいる。だからこの家ではいろんなジェネレーションやいろんな感じの人や働くスタイルが見れる。小さいかもしれないけど、たくさんのことが体験できると思う。
ここではいろんなアクティビティするの。天気がいい時は、ここで食べたりするの。朝ご飯とか。えっと、あとプライベートパーティーとかも。
ここが特別なのは、やっぱり子供がいること。
Kristina: うん、それは他と違うね。
Li: うん。それと子供と遊んでるときがおもしろい。ほとんどのシェアハウスは家族じゃなくて独身の人じゃない。それで結婚したら、クローズになるじゃん。でも私たちはオープンにしたの。だからみんなが参加できる。
日本の中でベストホストの1つとして選ばれたの。それで来月airbnbに誘われてサンフランシスコに行く予定で、世界中のいろんなホストに会うの。
彼は私の旦那さん。結構ユニークな名前なの、Sabeto。
