先週話題になったiCloud不正アクセスによるセレブの親密な写真流出について、アメリカではどのように受け取られているか考えてみました！

Recently, iCloud was hacked and intimate celebrity photos were leaked onto the internet. What would happen if this sort of thing occurred in Japan?

Kristina: I just saw you favorite actress naked…

Kristina: I don’t feel safe anymore…

Junko: Me neither

Kristina: Tons of baby pictures on iCloud

Junko: So…like the article just said, recently in America

Kristina: Someone hacked into the iCloud server, downloaded photos from uh…celebrities private accounts and then redistributed on the internet.

Junko: And I would like to point out that all of these celebrities were female.

Kristina: Yea, well…

Junko: And…nude photos…

Kristina: Surprise, surprise! The hacker is al lonely, lonely person. There are several issues that this brings up.

Junko: Mhm, um…well, privacy for one. You should always keep in mind the risk that…it’s easier for someone to hack in and access something on the internet then something on your personal device that’s…maybe not connected to the internet.

Kristina: The problem though, is also that many programs automatically will send your file, your photo, to the server. Or you’ll unknowingly sign up for such a service. Or its like a default setting…uh…my photos…I have to actually change it, this makes me aware what the settings on my phone, but by default, my phone connects to my google account and then sends my photos uh…to google.

Junko: Really

Kristina: So I have access on it. Access on google to those photos. But it doesn’t post on my google plus account because I didn’t enable that feature. But just saving it is already automatic.

Junko: So do you think that these pictures affect their career negatively or positively at all?

Kristina: I mean…I think now…women have more rights and more respect than they did say 10, 20, 30…definitely 10 years ago. Um…it does affect them because obviously they’re exposed to the world in their most intimate of a…intimate of states and people will judge them for it. Its hard to say whether or not it will affect their career. It depends on how they carry it.

Has anything like this ever happen in Japan?

Junko: Not to this extent. Um…there have been photos leaked of idols and their boyfriends or idols smoking…

Kristina: I…idols aren’t supposed to have boyfriends?

Junko: No. Idols in Japan are supposed to be pure. Completely pure. So if something like this were to happen, in which, a nude photo of an idol leaks onto the internet…whether that was by accident or someone hacked them, it wouldn’t matter. The sheer idea that an idol who’s supposed to be the definition of purity, here in Japan, taking a photo nude, is just outrageous.

Kristina: Wait, so back it up a bit. Idols can’t have boyfriends? You can’t be…are you dirty if you have a boyfriend?

Junko: I read this on Twitter, which I thought was quite interesting. This guy had tweeted out saying…he was directing this to all idols, that you should be thankful for your fans because, fans are the guys that will go to all of your shows in Tokyo, and then those are…fans are the guys that will also go to all your shows in Sendai or in Osaka and in Nagoya. Your boyfriends won’t do that. Your boyfriends won’t be willing to spend that much money on you. Therefore, you should always be thankful for your fans, and not make a boyfriend. Because of that, they’re not supposed to have boyfriends, they’re supposed to be pure. You know, they don’t do anything bad and…that’s why when photos leak of them seeing people or doing something naughty like smoking a cigarette, gets out, its a pretty big deal and it can damage and ruin careers.

Kristina: Ah, so forget about nude photos…its just…done

Junko: Yea. Although maybe she can spin it around and be like…I’m just going to become a porn star. A famous one. I don’t know.

Kristina: Is this just celebrity culture or is this a bit of misogyny mixed in with it? What do you think? We’re kind of curious to find out.

Kristina: iCloudサーバーに誰かがハッキングして、写真をダウンロードしたの…有名人のプライベートアカウントから、それでネット上にばらまいた

Junko: そこで言いたいのがこの有名人ほとんどが女性だったってね

Kristina: うん、まぁ…

Junko: それに…ヌード写真…

Kristina: びっくり、びっくり！このハッカーはただの寂しい寂しい人間だよ。これに関してたくさん問題が上がってくるんだけど

Junko: そうね…まぁ、まずはプライバシーだよね。リスクがあるってことを頭に入れておかないと…もっと簡単なんだよね、誰かがハッキングして自分がネットに上げた物にアクセスするのって、ネットに繋がってない…パーソナルデバイスよりは

Kristina: そこに問題点があって、最近のプログラムって結構自動的にファイルや写真をサーバーに送るの。それか知らずにそのようなサービスに契約してるとか。それかデフォルトセッティングとかで…えぇ…私の写真…実はこれ変えないと、この話してて自分の携帯の設定に気付いたんだけど…デフォルトで、私の携帯はグーグルアカウントに接続して私の写真を送るの、えぇ…グーグルに

Junko: 本当

Kristina: それでアクセスできるの。グーグルから写真にアクセスがあるの。でも私のグーグルプラスアカウントにはアップしてないの、その設定オンにしてないから。でも自動的に保存するだけ

Junko: この写真ってさ、彼女たちのキャリアにネガティブやポジティブな影響あると思う？

Kristina: うーん…私が思うには…女性はもっと権利持ってるし、尊重もされてるの、10、20、30年…特に10年前と比べたら。でも…これは何かしらの影響はあるよね、だって世界中の前で１番秘密な…秘密な状態をさらけ出されて、必ず批判する人はいるよ。でもこれがキャリアに影響あるかないかは難しいね。本人がどう振る舞うかによると思う。

このような事って日本でおこったことある？

Junko: ここまではない。でも…アイドルと彼氏とかアイドルが煙草吸ってる写真とかは出回ることあるよ

Kristina: ア…アイドルって彼氏いちゃダメなの？

Junko: うん。日本のアイドルはピュアでいないとダメだからね。完全に純粋でいなくちゃ。だからこのようなことが起きたら、アイドルのヌード写真がネットに流れたら…これが間違って上がっても誰かがハッキングして上がったとしても、関係ないと思う。ただ単に純粋でいるはずのアイドルがヌード写真を撮ってる時点でもう、とんでもない。

Kristina: ちょっと待って、少しだけさかのぼろう。アイドルには彼氏いちゃダメなの？きた…彼氏いたら汚いの？

Junko: ツイッターで読んだんだけど、面白いって思ったの。この男性の人がね、アイドル全体に関してツイートしてたの…アイドルはファンに感謝しなくちゃいけない、なぜならファンは東京のライブ全部行ってくれる男だから。そのファンは…仙台や大阪や名古屋のライブにも欠かさず行ってくれる男だから。彼氏なんてそんなことしない。あなたの彼氏はそこまであなたにお金を貢がない。だから、あなたは常にファンに感謝しなくちゃいけない、だから彼氏つくっちゃいけない。

そんなことあるから彼氏いちゃダメだし、純粋でいなくちゃいけない。だからね、悪い事しちゃダメなの…だから誰かと会ってる写真とか、煙草みたいないけないことしてる写真とかが世にでるとかなりダメージ受けるし、仕事できなくなるかもしれない。

Kristina: あぁ、じゃ、ヌード写真とか話にならないのね…もう…終わりだから

Junko: うん。でもそれを利用して逆転させて…AV女優になるわ、とか。有名な。わからない

Kristina: これってセレブカルチャーなのか少しだけ女嫌いも混ざったりしてるかな？みんなはどう思う？知りたいな

■■ 今日のフレーズ！■■

how they carry it

直訳だと「どうやって持つか」ですが、「どうやって振る舞うか」のほうがニュアンス的に近いです。本人はある出来事に対してどう振る舞ったり、どう反応するかによって結果や態度が変わることを意味してます。

back it up a bit

直訳ですと「少しだけバックして」です。これは話がかなり進んで、「あれ？」って思う部分があったら「back it up」と言って、「さかのぼって」って意味を表しています。（「a bit」は「少し」です。）これは会話中の「back it up」の意味です。でももし、実際に「back it up」と言うと車をバックしていくことや、少し後ろに下がる、とかの意味です。

例：「can you back it up a bit, you’re stepping on the line」「少し後ろに下がってくれる、線の上踏んでる」

misogyny

これは「女嫌い」の意味に近いです。英語では女性を見下したり、貶すような考え方を「misogyny」と言います。それをしている、信じている人は「misogynistic」や「you’re so misogynistic」など言います。
