音楽フェスティバル会場で外国人アーティストに出会ったときにやってはいけないことと、やってもいいことを Junko のライブハウスでアルバイトしていた経験を元に話します。今回は後編でアーティストに話しかけるときの英語フレーズも紹介しますよ！ → here

When you meet an artist at a festival, there are certain things you should, and shouldn’t do, which we will teach you based off of Junko’s experience from working at a live house. For phrases that you can use when you meet an artist, check out our second part!

JK: So…

Junko: Jinx! 1, 2, 3! You owe me a coke.

Kristina: Ok…

Junko: Can I substitute that coke for something else?

Kristina: No. It’s a coke.

Junko: It’s Kristina!

Kristina: It’s Junko!

Junko: And today, we’re going to give you guys tips on what to do and what not to do if you encounter your favorite artist at Fuji Rock.

Kristina: Yea!

Junko: So, first thing we recommend you don’t do, is to not stare.

Kristina: Like this?

Junko: Exactly, like that. Don’t do that. ’cause that makes the artist feel uncomfortable. I mean, they already get enough stares when they’re on stage. When they’re off stage, let them be human, you know? So instead, you should do…this!

Kristina: I know you guys are excited, but keep calm. Relax, they’re still human beings. A normal amount of eye contact is alright, you know?

Junko: And try to blink.

Kristina: I know it’s hard, but…

Junko: They’re not going to disappear on you.

Kristina: And your eyes will probably thank you.

Junko: Another thing to try to keep in mind when you meet your favorite artist is respecting personal space.

Kristina: Yea, don’t do that. Would you normally go up to a stranger and start touching them? Just because you listen to their album so many times, and you feel like you know them on a personal level…doesn’t mean you have the right to touch them. No, don’t do that.

Junko: I feel so violated!

Kristina: Exactly! And you don’t want them to feel that way.

So one of these is ok…

Junko: …oh…

Kristina: Or these, or even one of these!

Junko: Or you know what? A lot of artists will be ok for taking pictures or a brief hug. You know, like… “Awesome show! Could I get a hug?”

Kristina: “Sure.”

Junko: But don’t…

Kristina: …linger…

Junko: …hold onto them…

Kristina: Don’t linger. This is awkward.

Junko: Respect them. Respect me.

Kristina: Never!

Junko: And third and final thing that you should try to avoid doing is talking too much.

Kristina: Again, we understand that you’re excited. You want to tell them how you’ve…how they’ve changed your life with that one single song. Or with that album. But really, they just got off stage or they’re preparing to get on stage. They don’t really have time and they’re busy. But they appreciate your feedback. So let them know what you think as briefly as you can. If they’re interested in talking to you more then yea! Take the opportunity to continue the conversation, but don’t assume that they want to hear the top 10 reasons why you like their album. Or why you think they’re the best.

“Well, hello”

Junko: “Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I’m a BIG fan!”

Kristina: “Oh, that’s great!”

Junko: “Back in middle school when I was…my parents were going through a divorce, and my sister had a baby and I was failing all my classes…your album…”

Kristina: “Yes?”

Junko: “…really helped me pull through and…”

Kristina: “I’m glad! I’m…really…glad!”

Junko: “And…ever since then…”

Kristina: Let’s avoid that moment all together by not doing that.

Junko: Kristinaだよ！

Kristina: Junkoだよ！

Junko: で、今日はみんなにFuji Rockで好きなアーティストと遭遇したときにやっていいことと、やってはいけないことのティップスを教えます。

Kristina: うん！

Junko: で、最初にやらないほうがいいことは、ガン見しないこと。

Kristina: こうやって？

Junko: その通り、そうやって。それは止めて。だって、アーティストが気まずい気持ちになるじゃん。だって、ステージの上ですでにガン見されてるじゃん。ステージから降りた時暗い人間でいたいんじゃない？だから代わりに、こうすれば…いいよ！

Kristina: みんなテンション高いことは知ってるけど、落ち着いてね。リラックスして、相手も人間なんだから。普通に目を合わせたら大丈夫だよ。

Junko: 瞬きもしてね。

Kristina: 難しいかもしれないけど…

Junko: いきなり消えたりしないから。

Kristina: それに目が後で感謝すると思うよ。

Junko: もう一つ気にしておくこととしては、好きなアーティストに会った時に個人のスペースを尊重すべき。

Kristina: うん、それはやめたほうがいい。普通にさ、知らない人をいきなり触ったりする？アルバムたくさん聴いたからって、親近感を感じたからって…相手を勝手に触っていいってことじゃないよ。それはやめな。

Junko: 妨害された気分！

Kristina: その通り！相手をそんな気持ちにさせたくないよね。

でもこれとかは良いよ…

Junko: …あ…

Kristina: それかこれ、これも大丈夫！

Junko: 後ね、多くのアーティストたちは写真やハグとか大丈夫だからね。こういう…「最高なショーだったよ！ハグしてもいいかな？」

Kristina: 「良いよ。」

Junko: でも…

Kristina: …グズグズ…

Junko: …抱きつかない…

Kristina: いつまでもいない。それは気まずい。

Junko: 相手を尊重して。私を尊重して。

Kristina: ヤダ。

Junko: 3つ目と最後に避けておくべきことはしゃべり過ぎること。

Kristina: また、テンションが高いのは分かるよ。伝えたいんでしょ、あなた…相手の曲があなたの人生を変えたって。それかそのアルバムが。でも実際さ、ステージから降りたばかりか、これからステージに上がるとこじゃん。忙しいからそんなに時間ないわけ。でもお客さんの意見には感謝してるよ。だからどう思ってるかを短くして言いな。それで会話に興味があったらね！その機会を掴んで会話しても良いと思うけど、相手があなたが何でこのアルバムが大好きかの理由を10個も知りたくないでしょう。それかなぜあなたが相手のことが大好きか。

「やぁ、こんにちは」

Junko: 「ハーイ！私、大ッファンなんです！」

Kristina: 「あぁ、良いね！」

Junko: 「中学校の頃にね…両親が離婚をすることになって、お姉ちゃんが赤ちゃん産んで、授業全部赤点とってて…あなたのアルバム…」

Kristina: 「はい？」

Junko: 「…のおかげで全部乗り越えられてね…」

Kristina: 「それは良かった！本当…に…良かった…」

Junko: 「でね…それ以来…」

Kristina: その瞬間を全体的に避けるためにやめましょう。
